“Even when we’re not at a fork in the road, wondering what to do and trying to hear that inner voice, our intuition is always there, always reading the situation, always trying to steer us the right way.
But can we hear it? Are we paying attention? Are we living a life that keeps the pathway to our intuition unblocked?
Feeding and nurturing our intuition, and living a life in which we can make use of its wisdom, is one key way to thrive, at work and in life.” -HuffPost President-
What is intuition exactly? I think it is pretty challenging to define intuition but we can find common ground.
Steve Jobs called it “more powerful than intellect”.
But that is just intuition into words put, I think we all know what it is felt it when you feel it you understand it completely, no more need for words.
We’ve all experienced it at least one time, it’s that gut feeling when you absolutely know deep inside depending on the situation if it’s good or bad.
Me personally I have experienced it in a late-night when I was just walking down a street and it hits me badly, I felt a sickening feeling of something going wrong and that I need to run right away, and ran I did.
But for other people, it could be as simple as saying NO to a job offer if they don’t FEEL like it’s good for them or that something’s hidden in the details and it might go wrong.
“I define intuition as the subtle knowing without ever having any idea why you know it,” -Sophy Burnham-. bestselling author of The Art of Intuition, tells The Huffington Post.
“It’s different from thinking, it’s different from logic or analysis … It’s a knowing without knowing.”
Here is what highly intuitive people do:
They Listen to Their Inner Voice.
“It’s very easy to dismiss intuition, but it’s a great gift that needs to be noticed” – Burnham –
It’s not only listening to that inner voice but highly intuitive people have found a way to balance it, we all have intuition and we can also be aware of it, but if we don’t have any balance it becomes like an uncontrolled animal instinct.
Balance serves the gap between instinct and reasoning – and rational thinking.
“We don’t have to reject scientific logic in order to benefit from instinct, we can honor and call upon all of these tools, and we can seek balance. And by seeking this balance we will finally bring all of the resources of our brain into action.” – Cholle-
They take time for solitude.
Having time alone it’s a very effective way to get in touch with your intuition, solitude can help give rise to creative thinking, connect without deepest inner wisdom and our self, time alone just thinking makes us reflect on our personal life, even the lives of others but it somehow connects us with us.
“You have to be able to have a little bit of solitude, a little bit of silence in the middle of craziness. You can’t recognize [ intuition] above all of the noise of everyday life.”
They Create.
Life meaning and purpose is about finding your way, creating your way, creative people are highly intuitive and also creativity can be increased through practice, and just as you can increase your creativity you can also boost your intuition.
“Creativity does its best work when it functions intuitively “ – Carla Woolf –
“Mindfulness can help you filter out mental chatter, weigh your options objectively, tune into your intuition and ultimately make a decision that you can stand behind completely.” – Search inside yourself leadership institute –
They Observe Everything.
Getting in touch with your intuition and balancing it out, you will start to notice that your attention to details has increased significantly, you are starting to notice little things you didn’t before, it also helps to keep a journal and keep track of the odd things that happen in your life.
Burnham says: ”You’ll gain a keen sense for how often coincidences, surprising connections, and on-the-dot intuitions occur in your daily life”
They Pay Attention to Their Dreams.
Paying attention to your dreams helps you a lot to get in touch with your mind’s unconscious thinking process.
Burnham recommends to pay attention to your dreams as both dreams and intuition springs from the unconscious, you can begin to tap into this part of your mind by simply paying attention to your dreams.
“At night, when you’re dreaming, you’re receiving information from the unconscious or intuitive part of your brain, If you’re attuned to your dreams, you can get a lot of information about how to live your life.”
It can be a complicated process to start paying attention to your dreams, but for a start, you can look up what some of your dreams mean.
Also, try to remember them as much as possible, the best way to do so is early in the morning, as soon as you wake up note down everything you remember about your dream because, in less than 30 minutes, you’ll forget 80% of it.
I have noticed myself that I dream something very intensely and after a while, I just forget about the dream, then suddenly in my daily life something happens ( the way someone opens a door ) and I start remembering a big part of my intense dream, it is an overwhelming feeling to be left with.
